Five industries have been sealed for environmental infractions by Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, in different Local Government Areas of the state.
The Chairman, Ogun State Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, Alhaji Farook Akintunde said during the closure of the companies that the step became necessary after a series of petitions received from their immediate communities over the constant discharge of untreated waste into the environment.
Alhaji Akintunde who is also a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment noted that the affected companies had failed to obey the issued a Stop Work Order for them to stop production and correct the anomaly.
He assured the state government that it would continue to protect the interests of the residents of the state against harmful environmental practices by the companies.
Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency OGEPA, Dr Oluwadare Kehinde encouraged the industries to comply with the state environmental standards, adding that the companies would be forced after several warnings to abide by wastewater regulations in the state.
