The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has laid wreaths in honour of armed forces personnel who died in line of duty for the country.
The event was part of activities to mark the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Governor Makinde also inspected a Guard of Honour mounted by detachments of the Nigerian Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Nigerian Legion at the event held at Remembrance Arcade, Agodi Ibadan.
He assured retired military officers, especially the injured and families of fallen heroes of his government’s support for their well-being.
Governor Makinde also appreciated efforts of security agencies for maintaining peace in the state.
Speaking with newsmen, Chairman, Nigerian Legion Oyo state, Evangelist Julius Ogunkojo, called on retired soldiers to join the body in order to remain useful in the society and the nation at large.
Highlights of the grand finale of the weeklong event included 21-gun salute, released of white pigeons to indicate peace and harmony, special prayer, and presentation of a car to the pioneer founder of Federal Road Safety Corp, Major Rasaki Salawu (RTD).
