Alaafin Coronation: Tinubu, Makinde Pledge Support for Traditional Rulers

President Bola Tinubu has said that he would work with traditional rulers to end insurgency.

President Tinubu made this known at the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Owoade 1 as the 46th Aláàfin of Oyo, held at Oliveth Baptist High School, Oyo Town.

Represented by Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, President Tinubu said the ongoing constitution review would provide more roles for traditional rulers in the country.                   

President Tinubu while congratulating Oba Owoade, also called on Oyo town indigenes to support the new monarch in the development of the ancient town.

 While presenting Oba Owoade as the 46th Aláàfin of Oyo, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State said that Oba Owoade was divinely chosen and his selection equally followed due the process, the support of the Oyomesi and people of the town.

Governor Makinde, while calling on Oba Owoade and the Oyomesi to ensure that tradition surrounding the ascension of Alaafin throne remain sacrosanct, urged all aggrieved parties to accept the new monarch.

‎In his acceptance speech, Oba Owoade assured the people of Oyo town of a reign of total development.

‎‎Oba Owoade succeeded the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who joined his ancestors on April 22, 2022, at the age of eighty- three.
