Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed optimism about the defection of more opposition governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Newsmen reports that Okpebholo remarked on Wednesday during the official reception of defectors in Benin City, the state capital, boasting that the APC now has 31 governors.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the people of Edo State for their support for the ruling party.
He said, “Let me start by thanking Edo people for the unity that is binding us together and making us one party.
“We now have 31 governors in the All Progressives Congress, APC. And I want to tell you that more governors are still coming to join us.
“I want to also express my profound gratitude to our father, for whom we are here today, President Bola Tinubu.
“He’s being so good to us and we promise to deliver Edo State to him come 2027 general elections.”
Meanwhile, the newly elected executive of the APC in Edo State, led by Jarrett Tenebe, has endorsed Tinubu and Okpebholo for second terms in office, citing what it described as their outstanding performance.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, in a statement on Tuesday, disclosed that the decision was made during the APC congress.
According to him, Tenebe, in his acceptance speech, said the re-elected executive had formally endorsed Tinubu and Okpebholo for second terms, noting that both leaders have demonstrated strong performance and improved the lives of Nigerians and Edo residents.
He also announced the endorsement of Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Oshiomhole, for a second term in the Senate, citing quality representation.
While thanking party faithful for their unwavering support, Tenebe commended delegates for their trust and overwhelming confidence in the executive, pledging that the team would pilot the party’s affairs to greater heights.
