The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.
Newsmen reports that the forum, in a statement, congratulated Makinde on his emergence, describing his appointment as a recognition of his consistent leadership, commitment to democratic governance and contributions to national development.
It said the governor’s emergence came at a critical time when democratic institutions in the country were facing growing pressure, and Nigerians were demanding greater accountability from political leaders.
According to the statement, Makinde’s leadership qualities have become more visible in recent years, especially as the country continues to deal with economic hardship, insecurity and wider governance concerns.
The forum noted that the Oyo governor had shown commitment to accountable leadership, justice and the protection of democratic values.
It added that his public interventions on national issues had further strengthened his image as one of the leading voices within the opposition party.
The statement read in part, “Governor Seyi Makinde’s emergence as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum is a reflection of his consistent leadership and dedication to democratic governance, especially at a time of growing pressure on democratic institutions.”
The forum also said Makinde’s vision for a better Nigeria had become a source of encouragement to many citizens.
It stated that his record in office and position on key governance issues had placed him in a strong position to provide leadership for PDP governors across the country.
“His vision for a better Nigeria has served as a source of hope for many, while his public stance on accountability, justice and the protection of democratic values remains commendable,” the forum said.
It further described Makinde as a unifying figure whose political approach and administrative experience would help strengthen coordination among governors elected on the platform of the party.
The forum expressed confidence that under Makinde’s chairmanship, it would witness renewed energy, closer collaboration and stronger coordination in its activities.
It added that the new leadership would help the forum play a more active role in promoting democratic values, offering policy direction and strengthening the PDP’s position as the major opposition party in the country.
The statement added, “We are confident that under his chairmanship, the PDP Governors’ Forum will experience renewed energy and stronger coordination in its activities.”
