“The National Executive Council of the Nigeria Association of Social Workers warmly extends heartfelt greetings and sincere congratulations to the Lagos State Chapter as you commemorate World Social Work Day today, May 13, 2026.

“This year’s global theme reflects the profession’s renewed commitment to solidarity, collective responsibility, social justice, and the strengthening of human relationships. It calls on social workers across the world to build inclusive communities where dignity, equity, and compassion remain central to development.

“World Social Work Day remains a significant global platform that recognises the invaluable contributions of social workers in advancing human rights, promoting social cohesion, empowering vulnerable populations, and strengthening social protection systems. It also provides an opportunity to highlight the vital role of social workers in responding to emerging global challenges such as inequality, displacement, mental health concerns, poverty, and the growing need for inclusive social policies.

“The Lagos State Chapter continues to stand as a shining example of dedication, professionalism, innovation, and commitment to service. Lagos, being one of Africa’s most vibrant and diverse megacities, presents unique social realities that require resilient, well-trained, and compassionate professionals.

“Your efforts in child protection, family welfare, community development, healthcare support, youth empowerment, and advocacy for social justice have contributed immensely to strengthening the profession and improving the wellbeing of countless individuals and communities.

“This year’s theme strongly resonates with the African philosophy of Harambee — a call to collective action and shared responsibility. Social workers are bridge builders who foster unity across cultural, economic, and social divides. At a time when societies face increasing polarisation, social workers are uniquely positioned to rebuild trust, promote dialogue, and nurture hope within communities.

“I commend the Lagos State Chapter for sustaining the momentum of professional excellence and continuously raising the profile of social work practice in Nigeria. As you celebrate this important day, I encourage every social worker to reaffirm the core values of our profession and renew commitment to collaboration, innovation, and advocacy for policies that uplift the most vulnerable in our society.

“On behalf of the National Executive Council, I wish the Lagos State Chapter a joyful, successful, and impactful World Social Work Day celebration. May this occasion strengthen professional unity, inspire continued excellence, and renew our shared resolve to build hope and harmony in Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
