In a painful moment of reflection, we stand at the juncture of memory and tribute, bidding farewell to a revered figure in our community, his imperial majesty, oba Mahood Olalekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade ii.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life of profound significance, marked by unwavering dedication to Nigeria and the cherished city of Ibadan.

Ibadan, steeped in history and tradition, has long been a beacon of resilience and cultural vibrancy in Nigeria.

Its emergence as a hub of commerce and military prowess in the 19th century laid the foundation for its enduring legacy as a bastion of strength and unity.

Central to this legacy is Ibadan’s unique system of chieftaincy, a testament to its ability to foster community cohesion and preserve its rich heritage amidst changing times.

Oba Lekan Balogun’s journey traversed the realms of achievement and service, leaving an indelible mark on the tapestry of Ibadan’s history.

From humble beginnings in Ibadan to the corridors of political power, oba Lekan Balogun from the Aliiwo family compound epitomized integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to public service.

His tenure as a senator representing Oyo central senatorial district from 1999 to 2003 was characterized by a steadfast dedication to uplifting his constituents and driving positive change.

As a PhD holder from United Kingdom, journalist, and consultant for multinational organizations, oba Lekan Balogun’s intellectual contributions enriched discourse on national planning and social justice, leaving a lasting impact on Nigeria’s intellectual landscape.

His coronation as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland in 2022 was a crowning achievement, symbolizing his deep-rooted connection to his community and its cultural heritage.

We take solace in the legacies he left behind when he joined his ancestors on Thursday, march 14th, 2024 at the university college hospital, UCH, Ibadan.
