FHA Unveils Housing Project in Akwa Ibom

The Federal Housing Authority has flagged off the construction of its Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The ceremony was performed by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, and attended by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the FHA, Mr.  Oyetunde Ojo.

In a statement on Friday by the FHA’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Chigelu, Ojo described Eno as a leader deeply committed to the welfare of his people, particularly in the area of housing provision.

He recalled the governor’s early support for the project, noting that he provided the authority with land free of charge and pledged continued assistance to ensure its success.

Mr. Ojo said, “I recall vividly that on 2nd May 2024, when I let my management team to visit Your Excellency to seek the buy-in and collaboration of Akwa Ibom State in our Renewed Hope Housing agenda, this state, through Your Excellency, gave us a reception and encouragement that has not been matched anywhere.”

“We are beginning the fulfilment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to renew the hope of Nigerians by providing livable and affordable houses. The importance of decent shelter cannot be overemphasized as far as productivity and quality of life are concerned,”Mr.  Ojo stated.

According to him, the FHA has concluded procurement processes for housing construction across the six geopolitical zones, with groundbreaking ceremonies also planned for Kaduna, Abia, Ogun, Ekiti, Kogi, and Adamawa states.

Mrs. Ojo further disclosed that the authority has been completing and commissioning inherited projects in line with President Tinubu’s directive that “the days of abandoned projects are over.”

The FHA boss commended Eno for providing the Authority with a platform to establish its presence in Akwa Ibom for the first time in it’s over 50-year history, adding that the project’s value chain would create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the state.

He noted that such federal projects align with his administration’s commitment to collaborate with the Federal Government in tackling the housing deficit and accelerating development.

The governor revealed that, apart from the FHA project, the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development had also been allocated 50 hectares of land for its own housing initiative.

He also pledged to extend the state’s robust security architecture to protect the housing site, stressing that “the government does not compromise or play politics with the welfare of the people.”

Implemented through the Federal Housing Authority and the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the programme aims to provide affordable, quality, and sustainable homes for low- and middle-income earners across the six geopolitical zones.

Under the Renewed Hope agenda, the Federal Government is partnering with state governments to provide land and supporting infrastructure, while the FHA oversees construction and delivery — a move expected to boost employment, strengthen local building industries, and advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on sustainable cities and communities.
