General kollington Ayinla: Biography, Career, Family

Veteran Fuji Musician, Abdulrasaq kolawole Ilori popularly known as General kollington Ayinla was born on 20th of august 1949, to the family of chief Ayanda Ilori, a kingmaker and Alhaja Asiawu Mofodeke Ilori.

Being one of the pioneers of fuji music, General kollington hails from ilota, a town on the outskirt of ilorin, kwara state.

General kollington alongside his friend, ayinde barrister were the two most important artists to dominate fuji music from its inception in the 1970s through to the 1990s, by which time it had grown to become one of the most popular dance genres in Nigeria.

He joined the Nigerian army during the Nigerian civil war, which started in 1967 and blew flute to thrill mates on the parade ground.

In 1982, when fuji music was beginning to seriously rival juju as nigeria’s most popular contemporary roots music, he set up his own label, kollington records, through which he released about 30 albums in five years.

General Kollington Ayinla married Salawa Abeni, the waka queen in 1986 and joined his record label, staying with him until 1994.

The marriage was blessed with two boys and a girl.

The ijo yoyo crooner released many albums such as ijo yoyo and fuji ropopo which were about political and social happenings in the society. 

Meanwhile, few days back, general kollington ayinla, was said to have died.

However, the 74-year-old fuji musician debunked the rumours, putting to rest news of his death.
