The need for labour leaders to fully understand the trade union’s constitutional provisions for them to function effectively and efficiently towards the welfare of their members has been stressed.
This was the submission of two speakers at a One- Day leadership Capacity Building Workshop Organised by the Southwest Zone of Nigeria Union of Pensioners held in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.
Delivering a Lecture on understanding the constitutional provisions for effective leadership Roles in Trade Unionism, former chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Oyo state council, Comrade Waheed Olojede said Labour leaders should be well informed with the dictates of the constitution guiding trade unions labour union constitution.
Comrade Olojede, who appealed to labour leaders to always respect membership rights, commended South West NUP for organizing the lecture.
Also delivering a Lecture on Conflict Management in NUP Administration, Head of Education and Media Department, NUP Headquarters, Abuja, Comrade Bunmi Ogunkolade, appealed to Labour executives not to arrogate powers of other elected executives
Comrade Ogunkolade also appealed to members of labour unions to always have confidence in the leaders they voted.
In a remark, National President, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Mazi Godwin Abumisi said the seminar would ensure development of the union.
Earlier, Chairman, Southwest Zone of NUP, Chief Waidi Oloyede, said the seminar was aimed at checking conflicts among executives .
On his part, the Public Relations Officer of NUP Southwest Zone, Comrade Olusegun Abatan called for solid cooperation between chairmen and secretaries of the Union at various zones.
National leaders of NUP and state chairmen and secretaries from the south West attended the programme.
