Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT Oyo State wing, Alhaji Oladimeji Raji has called on communities where public schools are located to join forces with government in tackling vandalism of school infrastructures.
Alhaji Raji made this known while featuring on Pensioners FM Current Affairs programme, ‘The Searchlight.”
His call followed disbursement of grants for the renovation of fifty-eight public schools in the State by Oyo State Government in collaboration with Global Partnership for Education (GPE), a World Bank assisted programme.
According to Alhaji Raji miscreants vandalising school properties are usually harbouring in communities where the schools are situated.
Alhaji Raji also urged the state government to make provisions for Patrol teams that would patrol the school premises for the safety of students’ lives and property.
Speaking on examination malpractices, the NUT Chairman blamed it on poor learning environment, parental influence, deficiency in school curriculum and loose ends on the part of examination conducting bodies and invigilators.
He however said, NUT is doing everything possible to stem the tides of examination malpractices in the state.
