Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, Oyo State Council, has called on the government to make the welfare of teachers a top priority.
Chairman Oyo NUP, Chief Ishiaka Abolade and Secretary, Comrade Olusegun Abatan made the call in a statement in commemoration of this year’s World Teachers’ Day.
According to Chief Abolade and Comrade Abatan, teachers’ role in the education system and in the lives of students cannot be over emphasised, saying they must be motivated financially and through provision of a good working environment.
They also urged teachers to improve on their skills as nation builders, especially as the education sector is evolving every day.
