Mother/child mortality reduced in Oyo – Stakeholders

Stakeholders in the health sector say mother/child Mortality in Oyo state has reduced with the help of Health insurance scheme.

Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, OYSHIA and United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF said this at field trips to designated health centres in Ibadan, to conclude the two days Media Dialogue on Changing the Narrative on Child Mortality Through Health Insurance.

Director Planning Research and Statistics, OYSHIA, Pharmacist Joseph Oyewale, while speaking at the State Secretariat Staff Clinic said the health facilities OYSHIA works with have organised programmes such as cervical screening and pap smears focused on reducing death among women.

Pharmacist Oyewale added that OYSHIA in its efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage, has also equipped and renovated about 9 health centres in the state.

On her part, the Apex Nurse at Aremo Teaching Hospital, Mrs Olapeju Oladejo said with Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme, child birth fatalities have reduced at the facility.

One of the beneficiaries, who spoke on behalf of others, Miss Oreoluwa Adetoun said she has been on the health insurance scheme for the past two years without charges.

Miss Adetoun, however, urged OYSHIA to create more awareness on what its various health insurance schemes cover to prevent misunderstanding between beneficiaries and health workers.
