NAFDAC Raids Fake Alcohol Packaging Factory in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has intercepted N2 billion worth of counterfeit alcohol packaging materials in Lagos.

In a statement via its X handle on Thursday, NAFDAC said it stormed and dismantled illegal alcohol packaging operations at Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos State.

According to the agency, during the operation, over 50,000 counterfeit branded labels and packaging materials for fake alcoholic beverages, worth approximately N2 billion, were confiscated, adding that the items were being used to produce unapproved and hazardous alcoholic products.

“We warn about the severe health risks of counterfeit alcohol, including poisoning and organ damage.

“Consumers are advised to purchase alcoholic beverages only from trusted vendors and report any suspicious activities to the nearest our office,” NAFDAC said.

The raid is coming barely days after the agency seized counterfeit wines valued at N41.2 million in Nasarawa State.
