NUP Backs NLC, TUC’s Stand on Minimum Wage

Pensioners in the South West, says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are not asking for too much as regards the new minimum wage.

This was made known in a statement issued by the Southwest Zonal Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, at the end of the union’s Zonal Council Meeting in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

The Union berated President Bola Tinubu’s administration and state Governors for not taking the minimum wage negotiation seriously amidst the hardship confronting workers, pensioners and Nigerians at large.

The pensioners also demanded the abolition of 5years review of the minimum wage instead, it should be negotiated periodically in line with economic reality.

Comrade Abatan who is also the secretary Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP Oyo State Council, said there is need for the Ondo state Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to fulfil his promise of regular payment of gratuities and that his administration should restore the payment of N10,000 palliative allowance to pensioners in the state which was stopped since January this year.

The NUP Scribe also called on southwest governors to be pace setters for other governors in the country.

The union also congratulated President Tinubu ahead of his one year in office.
