Members of the All Progressives Congress APC, in Oyo State have staged a peaceful protest over the 300 billion naira loan request by the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration.
Addressing newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State APC Chairman, Mr. Olayide Abass, warned the state government against mortgaging the future of the people with what he called a rising debt profile.
Mr. Abass alleged that Honourable Ibrahim Shittu, the lawmaker representing Saki West constituency, had received threat messages after raising concerns about the loan approval process, warning against the intimidation of its members by the state House of Assembly.
The APC chairman further called on Governor Makinde to embrace transparency and prioritise accountability in the management of state resources rather than resorting to what he described as reckless borrowing.

Mr. Abass argued that the approval of a 300 billion naira loan by less than two-thirds of the House contravened due process and posed a risk of plunging Oyo State into deeper financial crisis.
Hon. Shittu had earlier faulted the approval of the N300 billion loan, insisting that the process fell short of constitutional requirements, as it did not secure endorsement from the mandatory two-thirds majority of the state assembly.
