The Oyo State Steering Committee on Child Labour in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has called on the public to take a stand against child labour.

This appeal was made during a sensitisation rally held at Moniya Market, Ibadan, in commemoration of the 2025 World Day Against Child Labour.

A member of the Technical Working Group of the State Steering Committee, Dr. Gregory Eigbadon, emphasised that the rally aimed to raise public awareness about the negative impact of child labour on society.

Dr Eigbadon also stressed that it was unacceptable for children to be engaged in labour during school hours.

He urged the public to recognise the importance of education and protect children’s rights.

“The purpose of this rally is to educate and sensitise the public on the consequences of child labour in our society,” he stated.

Also speaking, Desk Office Child Labour, Federal Ministry for Labour and Employment, Miss Titilayo Oyebanji, said the rally was meant to sensitise the public on importance of education rather than involving children in hard labour

“We’ve visited this market before for advocacy, and observed that it primarily serves farmers who often use children as helpers in both the market and on their farms,” she noted.

‎In a remark, Baale Oja Agbe Kingdom, Akinyele local government, Moniya, ‎Alhaji Moruf Akintola who appreciated the group for the rally, said he also supported the call for an end to child labour.

“I appreciate your visit to the market. I personally caution people whenever I see children being made to work here,” he said.
