Porous Gates to Permanent Security Fortification of Oyo State Govt. Secretariat

FROM POROUS GATES TO PERMANENT SECURITY FORTIFICATION OF OYO STATE GOVERNMENT SECRETARIAT IS THE FOCUS OF TODAY’S VIEWPOINT. IT IS WRITTEN BY AANUOLUWAPO FASOYIN OF OUR NEWS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT

The recent infiltration by suspected Yoruba nation agitators into the Oyo state secretariat on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, demands urgent attention.

This breach, which saw the armed men in army uniforms, hoisting their flag within the state house of assembly complex, underscores critical security vulnerabilities and necessitates a robust response.

Despite occurring on a weekend with reduced activities, the ease with which the gunmen gained access raises alarming questions about security protocols.

Mistaken identity of the invaders by security personnel further exposes communication gaps and intelligence shortcomings.

The porous nature of the Oyo state seat of power has facilitated unauthorized access not only by armed agitators but also by petty criminals.

Despite commendable efforts by governor Seyi Makinde to bolster security, there were incidents of theft such as cars, motorcycles and even an air conditioner from the chief of staff’s office.

While recent security enhancements and vehicle checks are commendable, they must not be temporary measures.

Continuous and comprehensive security protocols are essential to prevent future breaches and protect valuable assets.

Introducing a meticulous vehicle tally system and fostering proactive collaboration between government and security agencies are vital steps towards establishing a robust security infrastructure.

This infrastructure must actively discourage crimes and ensure the safety of all at the state secretariat.

In conclusion, prioritizing permanent and comprehensive security measures, including stringent vehicle checks, is imperative for fortifying the Oyo state secretariat and maintaining long-term security.

The current security measures are not temporary fixes but a commitment to safeguarding the premises and preventing future breaches.
