Oyo South Senatorial candidate, on the platform of Young Progressives Party, YPP, at the 2023 general election, Rev. Adenike Victor-Tade has called for reinforcement 35 per cent of female candidates vying for political positions.
Rev. Victor-Tade made the call while featuring on Pensioners FM Current Affairs programme, “The Searchlight”.
According to Rev. Victor-Tade, factors such as gender inequality, corruption and lack of funds are preventing women from contesting for leadership positions in the country.
She said “in Africa, we don’t believe in women ruling, taking charge and being a leader that is why gender is the main course why women are being relegated in politics.”
Rev. Victor-Tade advised that to encourage more women in politics, the legislative arm of government should make laws that would give women a level play ground in the political arena.
The politician also called for support for women in politics from the public, family and women especially.
