The President of Medical Women Association of Nigeria, MWAN, Dr Omowunmi Akinlosotun has urged government and relevant stakeholders to protect the elderly from abuse.
Dr Akinlosotun made this known as the guest speaker at “World Elders Abuse Awareness Day, WEAAD” organised by National Senior Citizen Center, NSCC and National Stakeholders Consultative Forum on Ageing, NNSCFOA, Oyo State Forum, in Ibadan.
Dr Akinlosotun, represented by former President, MWAN, Dr Hannah Adegbola, said in furtherance to protect the elderly, government needs to come up with laws that would protect them from abuse.
Dr Akinlosotun, also called for collaborative efforts between the youths and the government in taking care of the elderly.

Earlier, Co-Chair, NSCC Stakeholder, Mr Yomi Fakayode lauded everyone present at the event and called for effective implementation of the advice given.

WEAAD was launched 15th of June, 2006 by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization.
