TODAY’S VIEWPOINT IS ON TURNING ASPIRATIONS TO ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2025. IT IS WRITTEN BY EMMANUEL DADA, A YOUTH CORPS MEMBER IN THE NEWS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT.
The end of December ushers in not just a new year but the hopeful beginning of another season and an opportunity to redefine, reset, and renews ourselves.
In this spirit, many individuals turn to New Year resolutions, a tradition that encourages self-reflection and goal-setting for the New Year.
New year resolutions are essentially commitments that individuals make at the start of the year to improve their lives in various ways.
For many, the New Year holds a special place.
It is a season marked by jubilation, religious reflection, and a rekindling of optimism.
The phrase “New Year, New Me” becomes the order of the day filling social media timelines and casual conversations.
The concept of resolutions is deeply tied to the human yearning for progress.
The New Year, with its clean slate, offers a psychological reset button.
It is a time when people dare to dream of shedding old habits and adopting new ones.
People see the month of January as the perfect day to commit to personal growth
Resolutions may range from personal health goals to professional ambitions, pursuing long-ignored dreams, amidst other, all rooted in a desire for growth and improvement.
While resolutions can be as diverse as the individuals who make them, studies show that approximately 80% of New Year resolutions fail by February.
Some reasons identified for this high failure rate include setting unrealistic goals, lack of planning, loss of motivation amidst other.
Therefore, there is the need to ensure that resolutions are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
It is imperative to note that taking baby steps is how to achieve big things, therefore breaking big goals into smaller and manageable milestones is always the step to achieve some of the lofty resolutions.
There is also the need to embrace discipline and stay accountable to friends or mentors who can keep you on track with the fulfilment of your resolutions.
As we approach another New Year, embracing New Year resolutions can serve as a powerful catalyst for change if approached thoughtfully and realistically.
By setting clear intentions and employing effective strategies, we can transform aspirations into achievements that enrich our lives throughout the year ahead.
The beauty of New Year resolutions is not in their flawless execution but in the act of dreaming and striving to improve or to make the world better.
As people work on their resolutions this year, remember, it is not about becoming a “New You” overnight but becoming a better version of yourself.
