The Protection Gender Inclusion Focal Person, Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Oyo State Branch, Mr Akinyemi Makinde has described open communication as first psychological approach to prevent suicide in the society.
Mr Makinde made this known while featuring on Pensioners FM Health Programme, Radio Clinic while speaking on 2025 World Suicide Prevention Day.
Speaking on the this year’s theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”, Mr Makinde called on people to challenge harmful myths, reduce stigma and foster open, compassionate conversations around suicide.
He also advised victims of suicidal thoughts not to give up on life, noting that seeking help and speaking up would help them overcome their emotional challenges.
Mr Makinde further called on government to intensify efforts to prevent cyber bullying in reducing suicide cases.
