National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, says Nigerians data are secured and no cause for alarm.
Regional Coordinator, Southwest Zone, NIMC, Mrs Umeadi Shimbura, made this known while featuring on Pensioners’ FM Current Affairs Programme, “The Searchlight” in reaction to the recent alleged hacking of the commission’s website.
According to Mrs Shimbura, an investigation has been carried out and it was discovered that the allegation was false.
Mrs Shimbura, who claimed that the commission has enrolled about 180 million Nigerians for National Identity Number, NIN, called on contracted enrolment centres charging money before enrolment, to desist from such act, saying it is illegal and attracts punishment.
She noted that the commission’s website is up and running and Nigerians can now update their data through a self-service application when downloaded.
Mrs Shimbura further stated that NIMC is working on General Multipurpose Card, GMC, which would be launched in August, adding that the purpose of the card is to harmonise all data into a card.
