PENSIONER’S FM ON TODAY’S VIEWPOINT. WRITES ON TRUMP’S PRESIDENCY: A NEW GLOBAL CROSSROAD
On Monday, January 20, 2025, Americans entered into another uncharted path in the annal of governance.
It is the start of Donald Trump presidency, as he took the baton from Joe Biden.
Prior to his swearing in as the 47th president of the United States of america, trump’s utterances are nervy to people in many quarters.
Some of his remarks were about taking over Panama Canal, a waterway of a sovereign nation and Greenland, a small independent state within the orbit of Denmark.
Germany and France, Europe’s power house have promptly taken on the new us president on his comment on Greenland while Denmark wasted no time in retorting that Greenland, a self-governing part of its kingdom, is not for sale.
Panama on the other hand, sees president trump statement as illusionary.
Europe surely must be calibrating and brazing itself for another edgy relationship with trump bearing in mind how he said he would encourage Russian president, Vladimir Putin to attack nato allies that fail to pay defence bill to the alliance
Also, analysts and key stakeholders are trying to figure out if trump’s remarks are mere rhetorics or possibilities.
The world should hope that trump’s utterances on panama are mere threats because of the global ramification of any untoward us action in either panama or Greenland.
Should the threat become real, Moscow has found justification for its action in ukraine.
To china, it is the nod it needs to carry out its long-held desire to invade and bring Taiwan, which it regards as renegade region, under its armpit.
To Europe, a Nato nation annexing a member nation, would be a perplexity.
As for the rest of the world, it would be a stark reminder that us, Russia and china view them as minnows, afterall some animals are more equal than the others, as in the words of George Orwell in his famed novel “ animal farm”.
It would also prove the views in some international circles that the united nations is a toothless bulldog.
For Nigerians, Africans and other migrants, wisdom demands that they take president trump serious on issue of illegal migrants.
Trump’s assertiveness on America first should resonate some form of moral lessons for Nigeria and other African political office holders.
It is high time they put national interest above personal parochial pursuit.
