The Polytechnic, Ibadan Alumni Association has kicked against government localising Nigeria’s higher institutions.

The alumni Acting National President, Professor Lawal Akinloye, and a Board of Trustee, member, Alhaji Adewale Ogunmola made this known, while reacting to the renaming of The Polytechnic, Ibadan after former Governor of the State, Late Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, by the present Governor Seyi Makinde on special programme on Pensioners FM.
According to Professor Akinloye and Alhaji Ogunmola the act is not of global best practices and could also deter global opportunities and recognition.

Also featuring on the programme, the first vice president, The Polytechnic, Ibadan Alumni Association, Dr Badiru Serifat, who appealed to Governor Makinde to have a rethink on the renaming, noted that the current name in existence for over 50 years has great achievements associated with it.
Professor Akinloye, Alhaji Ogunmola and Dr Badiru Seifat, while appreciating the legacies of Late Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, however, noted that the name The Polytechnic, Ibadan should not be downgraded while trying to honour him.
They also reiterated the alumni’s readiness to keep defending the interest of the institution’s students.
