Low turnout of voters has been observed in some polling units in the ongoing bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.

A team of Pensioners FM Correspondents who  monitored the exercise at St. Louis Grammar School, Mokola (Polling Unit 26, Ward 7), Polling Unit 5 in Ward 7, and Ikolaba Grammar School (Polling Units 1, 37, and 38) reported that while Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials were present, only few voters were seen casting their ballots.

Security agents were equally present at the polling centres, to maintain law and order.

The bye-election followed the death of sitting lawmaker, Hon. Musiliu Akinremi, on July 10, 2024.

Earlier in the week, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Adeniran Tella, briefed journalists on preparations for the poll. He announced that movement would be restricted in 12 registration areas and wards, including Islamic Mission Primary School, Odoye; St. Stephen Primary School, Inalende; Salvation Army Primary School, Yemetu; Methodist Primary School, NTA; Ikolaba High School, Ikolaba; and St. Gabriel Grammar School, Mokola
