Oyo Govt. Puts Smiles on Pensioners

The Oyo State government has paid over twenty five billion naira out of thirty six billion naira gratuities owed retired primary school teachers and local government retirees by previous administrations.

Chairman, Local Government Staff Pension Board, LGSPB, Honourable Akeem Ige made this known at the flag off of bi-monthly payment of gratuities and death benefits to another batch of affected pensioners held at Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

According to Honourable Ige, Governor Seyi Makinde approved two billion naira for the payment of gratuities and death benefits of over 500 beneficiaries across 33 local government areas of the state for June and July.

Earlier, Permanent Secretary, LGSPB, Alhaji Lukman Muraina while congratulating the beneficiaries, announced that the board would sensitize prospective retirees next month on the dangers of engaging services of agents in the process of their retirement plans.

On his part, Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, lauded Governor Makinde’s approach to the payment of backlog of gratuities and death benefits and urged him to fulfill all the union’s demand on his table.

Some of the beneficiaries appreciated Governor Makinde and prayed for a successful administration.

Highlights of the event were symbolic presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries and health talks.
