The Oyo State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening environmental sanitation and disease prevention efforts, following a reported case of Lassa fever in the state.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources Hon. Ademola Aderinto, made this known while addressing newsmen in Ibadan, following the recent developments concerning Lassa fever case earlier stated by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi.
Hon. Aderinto who stressed the importance of maintaining a clean environment in curbing the spread of infectious diseases, noted that Lassa fever was largely associated with poor sanitation and exposure to rodents.

He urged residents to adopt proper hygiene practices, ensure appropriate waste disposal, and keep their surroundings clean at all times.
The Commissioner while reacting to a recent flood alert issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, listing Oyo State among areas at risk, warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and waterways.
Hon. Aderinto further advised residents to maintain proper water hygiene to prevent outbreaks of waterborne diseases such as cholera.
He added that the ministry remains committed to safeguarding public health through proactive environmental management and sustained public awareness campaigns.
