Special Marshal are backbone of community road safety-FRSC Commander

By Michael Adeyemo

The Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Oyo State, Commander Rosemary Alo, has described Special Marshals as the backbone of community-based road safety in Nigeria.

Commander Alo, who was the chief host, said this while declaring open the 2025 Sector Workshop for FRSC Special Marshals, RS 11.3 Oyo Sector Command.

Commander Alo said the workshop was organized to help Special Marshals improve their skills, gain more knowledge, and renew their commitment to making roads safer for everyone.

Commander Alo also advised both FRSC officers and Special Marshals to take personal safety seriously, especially during the Ember Months.

In a remark, the State Coordinator of Special Marshals, Pastor John Adegbotoluwa, said the purpose of the workshop was to learn new things, build on their experience, and remind themselves of important road safety practices.

Pastor Adegbotoluwa also urged Special Marshals to live up to their duties as stated on page 9 of their new guideline.

Earlier, while presenting a lecture titled “Enhancing Security and Safety Strategies for Special Marshals Operations,” the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of the University of Ibadan and newly elected Coordinator of the UI Special Marshals Unit, Professor Peter Olapegba, said road safety is the duty of all road users.

Professor Olapegba added that, Special Marshals protecting their own lives first is not selfish, but necessary to serve effectively.
