Professor Ayeni Celebrates 80th Birthday

The future of quantification in geography, that is using mathematical, statistical, and computational methods to analyze numerical data will be made easier with artificial intelligence.

The Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, Emeritus Professor Kayode Oyesiku, made this submission at a public lecture and 80th birthday ceremony in honour of the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Professor Matthew Bola Ayeni.

The event was organised by the Department of Geography, Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Ibadan.

Speaking on the theme “Professor Bola Ayeni: Quantification in Geography – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” Emeritus Professor Oyesiku, who was the guest lecturer, said quantification in geography would increasingly become predictive, participatory, and ethically grounded with artificial intelligence.

Emeritus Professor Oyesiku also described the celebration of Professor Ayeni, fondly known as Ayenco, as one that young scholars and students of geography should look up to.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka, described Professor Ayeni as a seasoned academic and administrator whose strength lies in his calm and unassuming disposition.                               

In his remarks, the celebrant, Professor Ayeni, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for sparing his life to witness another year.

Professor Ayeni also appreciated individuals and institutions that supported the event, both morally and financially, to ensure its success.
