A former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Adewole Ajakaiye, alongside two public affairs analysts, John Njoku and Folusho Olapo, have called for comprehensive reforms of the Nigeria Police Force to enhance its effectiveness and performance.
AIG Ajakaiye and Mr Njoku and Barrister Olapo made this call while reacting to the recent resignation of the former Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the appointment of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, during a weekend current affairs programme, Voice of Liberation, aired on Pensioners FM.
According to AIG Ajakaiye and Mr Njoku and Barrister Olapo, key areas requiring reform include proper recruitment processes, continuous training of police officers, and improved welfare packages.
They noted that the measures would significantly boost morale and professionalism within the force and in turn, contribute to improved security across the country.
Speaking on the tenure of the retired IGP, the discussants observed that Egbetokun performed to the best of his ability.
AIG Ajakaiye and Mr Njoku and Barrister Olapo urged the newly appointed Acting Inspector General of Police to build on existing efforts and strive for better results in advancing police professionalism and national security.
