Oyo Govt. Urges Residents to Embrace Collective Environmental Responsibility

By Michael Adeyemo

The Oyo State Government has urged residents to treat environmental sanitation as a shared duty and collective Responsibility.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Honourable Ademola Aderinto, made the appeal during the launch of a 10-day community clean-up exercise in Ibadan, organised by the children of a former Secretary to the Military Government and Head of Service in the state, the late Theophilus Adeleke Akinyele.

Honourable Aderinto who stressed that maintaining a clean environment should not be the sole responsibility of government noted that active participation by residents is essential to achieving a healthier and safer society.

Honourable Aderinto commended the children of the late Chief Akinyele for organising the clean-up initiative.

The commissioner also called on well-meaning Nigerians to support government efforts aimed at promoting cleanliness and environmental sustainability across communities.

Responding on behalf of the family, Akinkunmi Akinyele said the initiative was conceived in support of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner society.

Mr Akinyele added that the exercise also marks the posthumous birthday of their father, noting that he believed the late statesman would have championed such a cause if he were still alive.
