The Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo state council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan has called on the federal government to address the irregularities facing the Contributory Pension Scheme, CPS.
Comrade Abatan made this known as a guest speaker at an event organised by Nigeria Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector, NUPCPS Oyo state Chapter, held at Pensioners House, Agbarigo, Onireke, Ibadan.
Speaking on the topic, “Contributory Pension Scheme; More Rivers to Cross”, Comrade Abatan said the motive of CPS was to maintain financial security and regular income, but entitlements are not paid promptly as promised.

Comrade Abatan, who is also Public Relations Officer, NUP southwest zone, said a lot of issues need to be addressed by the federal government if pensioners under the CPS would live a better life comparable to those under Defined Benefits Scheme, DBS.
On his part, Chairman, NUPCPS, Oyo state Chapter, Comrade Joseph Oyadiran lauded the efforts of Oyo NUP during their struggles with National Pension Commission, PENCOM and rejoiced that their efforts paid off.
Comrade Oyadiran, also appreciated Director General of PENCOM, Mrs Omolola Oloworaran’s resilience to pensioners’ welfare.

Part of the activities of the event was presentation of awards to Comrade Abatan, Assistant Secretary, Oyo NUP, Comrade Banji Koleoso and Pensioners 106.7 FM, for their support throughout the struggles.
Speaking on behalf of the station, Pensioners’ FM General Manager, Dr Babatunde Tiamiyu appreciated NUPCPS for the award and urged the senior citizens to listen to the station’s programme on health and wellbeing of retirees.
Dignitaries present were Baale of Olofo town, Chief Olaleye Moshood, Head of Operation, Pensioners FM, Mr Ibiwunmi Ishola and other dignitaries from different parastatals.
