To put an end to land grabbing, encroachment and other land disputes, Oyo State house of Assembly has held a public hearing on the amendment to the land protection bill, 2023.
The Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Honourable Bamidele Adeola, at the event held at the house of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan said some defects in the Real Properties Protection Law, 2016 necessitated the new bill.
Honourable Adeola, who revealed that the new bill, when passed into law, would ensure a functional agency for proper monitoring of land grabbers.
He assured that all submissions raised by various stakeholders at the public hearing would be taken into consideration.
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Sefiu Oyebola, said there should be no abuse of powers by law enforcement agencies in the state.
Representatives of Nigeria Police and Operation Burst, called for synergy between security agencies and the taskforce in the discharge of duties.
They added that the powers to detain suspects of land grabbing, should be the exclusive responsibility of national law enforcement agencies.
