Ash Wednesday: Pray for peace of Nigeria – Rev. Ibikunle

By Michael Adeyemo

As Christians in Nigeria mark Ash Wednesday, the Oyo State Government has enjoined residents to use the first day of lent and after to pray for the peace and stability of the state.

The Special Assistant on Inter-Faith Affairs to the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Rev. Femi Ibikunle, made the appeal in an interview with Pensioners FM Correspondent.

According to Rev. Ibikunle, amidst the economic challenges confronting the country, Christians need to continue to pray to God to restore the nation’s past glory.

Rev. Ibikunle also described Ash Wednesday as a time some Christians across the world identify themselves with the sufferings of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary.

He said “it is a time for sober reflection and to go back to God in repentance.”

He added that the period was solemn whereby some Christians fast and do other things that elevate their faith in Christ.
