Black Tuesday: Makinde Blames Explosion on Illegal Miners

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has attributed last night’s explosion at Adeyi Avenue, Old bodija Estate, Ibadan to activities of illegal miners living in the area.

Governor Makinde made this known to newsmen, when he visited the scene of the explosion.

According to the Governor, the illegal miners had stored explosive devices in some of the residential buildings they were occupying.

He confirmed that the explosive devices caused the blast, which resulted into deaths, while many sustained various degrees of injuries.

Governor Makinde, while describing the incident as pathetic, condemned the attitude of the residents for not informing relevant authorities about the illegal miners.

Governor Makinde said a comprehensive investigation of the incident, which led to destruction of lives and properties, would be carried out, while the culprits would be prosecuted.

Governor Makinde, who visited the victims of the blast at the hospital, promised to settle their medical bills and provide temporary accommodation for them.

As at the time of filing this report, government rescue team and some individuals were at the scene of the explosion, while security operatives have been deployed to maintain peace in the area.

Ibadan residents were last night thrown into confusion, after some parts of the city experienced an unusual loud sound, which shook buildings in the metropolis.
