Electricity Workers Picket IBEDC Office

The Members of Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, Western zone today, picketed the head office of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC at Adeoyo Ring Road over alleged illegal disengagement of its members by the company.

Assistant General Secretary, NUEE, Western Zone, Comrade Modupeoluwa Akinola said IBEDC did not follow due process in the disengagement of some workers and insisted that the union would continue to picket the office until the sacked workers are reinstated.

Comrade Akinola said apart from the call for the reinstatement of sacked workers, the union also demanded for implementation of the new minimum wage, payment of full salary without deductions, provision of healthcare services to workers, abolition of casualisation and provision of tools.

On his part, Chairman of NUEE in Oyo State, Comrade Idris Olaide called for readjustment on the implementation of Performance Improvement Plan, PIP imposed on its members by IBDEC.

Comrade Olaide also called for redeployment of some workers who were reportedly termed as underperforming Personnel to another geopolitical zones to assess their level of productivity rather than disengagement from service.

Our correspondent reports that customers were prevented from entering the office, while security agents were on ground to maintain peace.

Meanwhile, the union members have threatened to continue the protest till their demands are met by the management of IBEDC.
