Media Experts Reiterate Importance of TV on World Television Day

Media experts have again reiterated the importance and significance of television to humanity and national development.

The media experts made this known while speaking on this Year’s World Television Day with the theme ‘Accessibility’.

A Veteran Broadcaster, Alhaji Ayinde Soaga, said television as a medium of communication with the combination of vision and audio is a very effective means for education, information and entertainment.

Alhaji Soaga, who retired as General Manager, Nigerian Television Authority, NTA Katsina, urged media experts and others not to abuse the effectiveness of Television rather use it to aid development.

On their part, a former Nigeria Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr Yemi Farounbi, and Deputy Director of Programmes, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Rev. Niyi Dahunsi described Television as a powerful medium capable of elevating and downgrading, and which must be carefully nurtured and supported for the overall good of humanity.

Dr Farounbi who is also a Veteran Broadcaster and Rev. Dahunsi added that Television is very significant all over the world and one of the greatest technology innovations.

Some Nigerians, however, believe that social media has taken over the effectiveness of television.

They added that, television has undergone significant technological improvements over the years.
