Chairman, Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State Professor Siyan Oyeweso, has called for the revitalisation of Yoruba culture.
Professor Oyeweso made this known at the annual lecture and award ceremony organized by the Supreme Forum of Yoruba Youths held in Ibadan.
In his lecture titled “Rejuvenating Yoruba Culture for Economic Upliftment of the People,” Professor Oyeweso represented by a Senior Lecturer in Yoruba Studies Department at Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, Dr Oyewale Oyeweso, stated that the yourba culture has immense potentials for wealth creation.
In the lecture presented in yoruba language, Professor Oyeweso emphasized that the region’s rich heritage in arts, vocational skills and traditions offers unique opportunities for job creations, to foster local industries and tourism.
Speaking on behalf of traditional institution, Sabiganna of Iganna Kingdom, Oba Saliu Azeez, commended the Supreme Forum of Yoruba youths for organizing the event, which he described as an important step in preserving and promoting Yoruba culture.
Earlier, National President of the Supreme Forum of Yoruba Youths, Odo’Kunrin Oluwafemi Awogboro, explained that the primary objective of the event was to explore ways to rejuvenate the Yoruba cultural heritage so as to stimulate economic empowerment for the people.
The event also featured a special segment celebrating the life of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
Several dignitaries were recognized for their contributions to cultural development, including General Manager Pensioners FM, Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu, who received an award as “Agbohunsafefe Agba To Fakoyo” and Ambassador Romoke Ayinde popularly known as Kayrom lee”
Distinguished guests at the event included the Olu of Igboora, Oba Jimoh Titiloye and the retired Methodist Archbishop of Ilesa and Ibadan, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu
