Oyo Government Intensifies Daily Sanitation Enforcement Drive

By Michael Adeyemo

The Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, has urged residents to adopt daily environmental sanitation as part of efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier state.

Speaking to newsmen in Ibadan while reviewing his first 100 days in office, Honourable Aderinto said the state government is no longer considering weekly or monthly sanitation exercises, stressing that cleanliness must become a daily responsibility.

He explained that a new enforcement system has been introduced, with environmental health officers deployed across communities to monitor compliance every day.

According to him, the renewed approach is already producing results, with indiscriminate dumping of refuse reportedly reduced by 10 percent.

The commissioner also announced the re-engagement of 930 environmental workers, including vanguards, sweepers, and waste packers, alongside the acquisition of two new compactor trucks to improve waste evacuation.

He further revealed the launch of the “Oyo Soro Soke Environmental Whistleblower” platform, designed to allow residents report environmental violations via mobile applications and WhatsApp.

Aderinto also linked improved sanitation to ongoing efforts to curb diseases such as Lassa fever, stressing the importance of hygiene and proper waste management.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for the opportunity to serve, assuring that his administration’s trust would be justified.
