Chairman of the Ministry of Women Affairs Rapid Response Team on Gender-Based Violence, Mr. Marcus Williams, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating gender-based violence and protecting the rights of vulnerable persons.
Mr. Williams made this known while featuring on Pensioners FM Yoruba stewardship programme, Àbo Re.
According to him, the team was set up to ensure prompt intervention in cases of gender-based violence, provide immediate support for victims, and collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served.
He emphasised that reporting cases early helps prevent further abuse and saves lives.
The chairman noted that public awareness and community participation are crucial in the fight against gender-based violence, stressing that traditional institutions, religious bodies, and the media all have important roles to play in educating the public.
Mr. Williams also encouraged victims to speak out and seek help, assuring them that the Ministry of Women Affairs has put mechanisms in place to handle cases with confidentiality and professionalism.
