Farmers in Oyo State have been encouraged to apply for interest free loans of the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery, (SAfER) program, to sustain food security.
The state commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, said this in Ibadan at the disbursement of one billion naira to farmers under the SAfER programme.
Barrister Olaleye, who doubled as Chairman, food security sub-committee of SAfER, said the loan which would not be politicised can be accessed at designated banks in every zone of the state, as well as from every local government council.
Earlier, Chairman of Agriculture Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS) Sheikh Taofeek Akeugbagold, said the loan would enhance productivity of farmers.
He therefore urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously and abide by regular repayment periods.
Some of the beneficiaries who were presented with symbolic cheques, appreciated the efforts of the state government.
