Oyo State Government has directed the proprietor of an Ibadan based private radio station and the organisers of a children’s funfair which resulted into a stampede that claimed the lives of some children to surrender to the police to avoid the wrath of the government.
Deputy Governor of the state, Barrister Bayo Lawal, made this known while on a visit to the scene of the stampede.
According to Barrister Lawal the state government was not part of the programme.

Barrister Lawal, frowned at the non-involvement of security agencies to maintain law and order during the event and promised that the state government would investigate the cause of the accident.
The deputy governor also visited Adeoyo state hospital, Ring-road and a private hospital where some of the victims are undergoing treatment.

Earlier in a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, had said a stampede occurred in the early hours of today, at the private children’s fun fair held at Basorun Islamic High School, leading to loss of lives, mostly children, with some others injured.
According to Prince Oyelade, the State Government had swiftly mobilised a rapid response team following the breaking of the incident.
