The Commissioner, who spoke through Mrs. Yemisi Abiola, said the quiz is a platform to introduce students, who are future leaders, to the fundamentals of legislative processes and procedures for democratic governance.
He explained that the quiz competition will expose participants to the understanding of the history, role, and function of the Nigerian legislature.
In his remarks, the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, said that the quiz competition was an initiative of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies.
He submitted that the competition will provide continued education on the legislature and broaden the knowledge of students in civic and democratic governance.
The DG, represented by Mr. Rotimi Ogunyomi, said that the competition will stimulate the interest of the young students in politics and make them more proactive in matters relating to the legislature and democracy.
He commended Oyo state government and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, for their support towards the success of the programme.
He explained that the competition was an annual event, noting that the first edition was held in 2016 with participating schools drawn strictly within the Federal Capital Territory.
