The Chief Executive Officer of YES FM, Ibadan, Mr. Yemi Sonde, has called on journalists to maintain integrity and uphold their responsibility as gatekeepers of truth in the face of growing concerns over fake news.
Delivering a lecture entitled “Fake News and Media Integrity” at an event organized by the Department of Mass Communication at Dominican University, Samonda, Ibadan, Mr. Sonde urged newsmen to remain committed to ethical standards of the profession.
Mr. Sonde also encouraged aspiring journalists to embrace ethical reporting as they prepare to join the media industry.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman on the occasion and former Director of News at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria FRCN, Barrister Steven Ajibola, described the lecture as an eye-opener for students and insight into the societal damage caused by fake news.
Earlier, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dominican University, Associate Professor Ifeanyi Onyike, said the lecture was organized to counter the perception that media platforms are tools for spreading propaganda and misinformation, and to provide students with an opportunity to engage directly with seasoned media practitioners.

Present at the event were General Manager of Pensioners FM, Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu and Deputy Director New Media, Radio Nigeria Ibadan, Dr Shola Agboola.
