The Executive Director of Galilee Foundation, a Non-governmental Organisation in Ibadan, Dr Gregory Eigbadon, has urged states yet to enact Child’s Rights Act 2003, to do so.
Dr Eigbadon made this known while speaking on this year’s World Day Against Child Labour on Pensioners FM Current Affairs programme, “Trending.”
According to Dr Eigbadon, some of the 36 States of the Federation have fully domesticated the Child Rights Act, which he said is a law that deals with issues of child abuse, child labour, and forced marriage.
Dr Eigbadon said any work that affects the physical and mental state of a child below 18 years must be checked.
He also urged governments to empower parents, provide social security and ensure a viable economy, which are steps to tackle child labour.
Dr Eigbadon added that everyone is a stakeholder in ending child labour and called for more awareness, rapid response to reducing out of school children and prosecution of child abusers.
