The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has raised the alarm over a new tactic adopted by drug traffickers, who now hide illicit substances inside items designed to look like regular flight boarding passes.
The warning was issued by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a post shared on social media.
According to Babafemi, operatives in Lagos recently uncovered the deceptive method, which involves packaging dangerous substances, including the drug popularly known as Colos, inside what appear to be harmless travel documents.
He urged parents, guardians, and the general public to be extra cautious, particularly concerning packages delivered by dispatch riders, noting that traffickers are increasingly using everyday items to evade detection.
“These may look like ordinary flight boarding passes, but hidden inside them are harmful substances such as Colos,” Babafemi wrote.
“This is one of the new techniques used to distribute illicit drugs across city centres, as uncovered by NDLEA operatives in Lagos.”
He described the discovery as a “wake-up call,” stressing the need for families to monitor deliveries made to their children and wards.
“The merchants of death are becoming more creative with their packaging, but the NDLEA remains several steps ahead,” Babafemi added.
