About seven inmates have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, following the collapse of part of the custodial centre wall.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, created an opportunity for the prisoners to flee the premises undetected.
Confirming the incident, the Controller-General of Corrections, CGC, Sylvester Nwakuche, speaking through the Deputy Controller of Corrections/Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, said the facility had launched an expansive manhunt following the rainfall that breached the security of its facility in Ilesa.
Nwakuche has also ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
He assured that the service is working closely with sister security agencies as well as community leaders to recapture the escapees and bring them back to custody.
The Service solicits the cooperation and support of the public in providing information that may lead to the recapture of the fleeing inmates.
