The Oyo State Government identified culture and tourism as potent tools that can significantly contribute to the state’s economy if properly harnessed.
Governor Seyi Makinde, stated this at the grand finale of the 2025 World Egungun Festival, held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado Ibadan.
Represented by his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, Governor Makinde, assured that his administration would explore ways to make the festival a profitable venture.

He emphasized the importance of preserving culture while promoting religious freedom and inclusivity.
The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, reemphasized that the state government is planning to make UNESCO adopt the Egungun festival as a global event.

The event was honored by the executive and members of the Nigerian Union Pensioners, Oyo State Council, led by the union’s secretary, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, and other unions and associations in the state.
Highlight of the event was the colourful parades by masquerades from various southwest states including neighbouring countries such as Togo and Benin Republic.
