A member of Labour Party, LP, in Oyo State, Mrs Oyebukola Akinpelu, has called for full Local Government autonomy.
Mrs Akinpelu made the call while featuring on Pensioners FM Current Affairs Programme, ‘The Searchlight.”
According to Mrs Akinpelu, full autonomy will give room for Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct local government election.
She said INEC conducting local government election would promote the peoples’ choice and curb malpractice during electoral process.
Mrs Akinpelu also frowned at the decision of the 33 Council Chairmen in Oyo State dumping the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, over the Supreme Court’s judgment granting financial autonomy to local government across the country, saying it is not a good development for the people at the grassroots.
